Private Interview with the Judges and Night #1 of Preliminary Competition are finished!
Ayanna was pleased with her personal interview. She was so glad she had taken advantage of all of the mock interview opportunities on campus. Thank you to those that assisted with those practices. She believes they made a difference!
The program tonight was the beginning of a week of celebration of Miss Indiana’s 75th anniversary. Miss Indiana 2008 – 1975 and 1965 all served as guest MC’s for part of the competition tonight. In addition, the mayor of Zionsville was in attendance to accept a thank you award in honor of Zionsville being the home of Miss Indiana for the past 10 years.
Another guest tonight was Olivia Marshall, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. She is from Georgia – just completed high school and is starting her freshman year at Julliard on a full ride scholarship in the fall! She is one amazing young woman! She did pose a question to our long time Master of Ceremonies…..”what is a Hoosier”? is it an animal?” Of course the crowd roared with laughter as Brad tried to explain the definition of a Hoosier!
The competition portion of the night was filled with dancers, vocalists, martial arts demonstration, a ventriloquist, and a jump rope performer! Gowns were spectacular! Lots of talented girls and women!
Ayanna’s on-stage question related to her wellness platform. She nailed the answer!!!!
After a few special awards and the announcing of the preliminary winners for swimwear and talent the show came to a close until tomorrow evening.
We were able to visit with the contestants for a short while after the pageant. Attached is a picture of 3 of our Forever Miss Indiana State University women who continue to be actively involved in the Miss America organization. Amanda (Zachary) Burns (2003), Jessica Weesner (2014) and Ayanna!
Tomorrow is a big day! The contestants have lunch with the local Elks Club (who serves as huge sponsors of our scholarships). After lunch they visit Riley Hospital – which is their state/national platform. The women are so excited to seeing the hospital and meeting with some of the patients.
We do appreciate each of you and your support this week and throughout the year!
