My name is Allison Barker and I am a junior studying vocal music education. This is my third year as a contestant for Miss ISU, and I am so excited to compete with returning and new friends! I am incredibly grateful to be supported in my studies with multiple scholarships from the Miss America Organization, and the ISU School of Music. I am currently the Vice President of Internal Affairs of the Music Student Association, a member of the ISU Concert Choir, and Sycamore Singers, and was selected to perform for the Contemporary Music Festival. I am also thankful to be the student director with my internship in the Terre Haute Children’s Choir.
Miss ISU 2016 was my first pageant, and I have been fortunate to place first runner up two years in a row, with scholarships for my talent and private interview. Miss ISU gave me the confidence to continue to compete, and I was honored to represent Terre Haute and compete for Miss Indiana 2016 as Miss Crossroads to America. My favorite part of the Miss America Organization is that we get to represent a platforms that is important to us. My platform is “Changing Lives One Note at a Time; The Importance of Music in Schools,” advocating how music shapes and positively enhances a child’s learning process in efforts to retain and improve funding for the fine arts in schools. With my platform, I was able to host and orchestrate a vocal showcase as a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network.
The Miss America Organization is focused on service, style, scholarship, and success. As a contestant and past title holder, I have gained so many friends who I will cherish forever. I will always be thankful for the confidence, professionalism, interview skills, friends, and volunteer opportunities I have gained from the MAO, especially with the Miss ISU team. If I were to be selected as Miss ISU 2018, I will serve my university as an ambassador, performer, leader, and friend to all students and staff. Come out and support all of the beautiful, gifted, and intelligent women competing for the best title in Indiana on November 12!
