We are happy to report that Wednesday's competition is now complete!
Jessica started out the day with final preparation for interview (make up - hair - reviewing her 30 second closing statement for the judges and catching up on all of the current events). Her private interview with the judges was at 12:30 pm. I received the following text after she finished "... it was great! I got to talk about Brionna (her princess for Miss Indiana - who is facing medical challenges) and clogging!" She was asked many questions ranging from "Is middle America ready for a Miss America who is in a same sex relationship" to "are you a miracle granter for Make-A- Wish". This part of the competition is 25%.
Immediately after her interview Jess joined the other contestants as they visited a nursing home facility in Zionsville.
Tonight was an easier night on stage for Jess. Her group of contestants only had to answer an on-stage question - 5% of the competition points. She did well in her response to a question about her platform (Children with Medical Challenges -Make -A-Wish Foundation). Each night the contestants introduce themselves to the audience by saying something special about their college - hometown or pageant. Jessica's is based on ISU being ranked #1 in Community Service.
After competition each night we are able to spend 15 minutes with Jessica. It was great to have her family (Granny- Mom- Dad and a family friend) as well as the Miss ISU Board of Directors and ISU staff, alumni and students in attendance tonight. Once the contestants return to their hotel - the directors have a chance to meet with the women for 20 minutes. It gave Jess a chance to "decompress" before tomorrow's busy day.
On a side note - when I went to the hotel to meet Jessica - JAKE ODUM was getting on the elevator. I was able to chat for a minute and tell him about Miss ISU being in the same hotel and about the competition. He is staying there while he works out with the Pacers! What a small world!
Thursday is a day full of appearances and preliminary competition night at 7 pm.
We can't thank you enough for your continued support!
